I had to talk about this. All the attention is always geared towards people who are wishing to lose weight rather than trying to gain weight. It seems that we are more likely to be overweight than being skinny (not necessarily underweight). Just like losing weight, gaining weight must be done consciously and carefully. Simply eating whatever comes my way is not going to get me where I want to be. Putting on weight doesn’t mean putting on fat. It means putting on more muscle than fat.
Studies have found that people who maintain their weight through diet rather than exercise may have fat deposits even if they look slim or skinny on the outside. This is internal fat that we cannot see. Fat that surrounds the heart, liver and pancreas, for example.
The risks? Heart disease, and diabetes among others. To effectively and safely put on weight a weight managment plan is necessary.
1- Determine the right amount of calories your body needs.
2- In order for your body to begin putting on weight you must consume an excess of the required amount (500 calories a day is a good number).
3- An exercise plan is a must. If you just sit down all day the excess calories will magically turn into fat.
For the hard gainers weight gain supplements or weight gain shakes can be of great help, specially at the begining. Believe or not eating more is not an easy task. It takes time getting your body used to eating more. It’ll be a long journey, make it an enjoyable one!
