How to Have More Energy

Have you heard people say that they feel like they have more energy ever since they started working out or exercising? It is true; exercise has the potential of bringing to your life energy and motivation. But getting through a workout can be challenging; this is when you need energy the most. So why are you so tired that you cannot complete your workouts?

6  tips for increasing your energy levels:

  • Have an oatmeal breakfast with low fat, fat free or skim milk. If you are lactose intolerant try lactose free milk, it tastes the same. This breakfast provides your body with an optimum supply of glucose to keep you fueled. Coffee is fine too, just make sure it is part of your breakfast, rather than your breakfast. At this point is important that you know yourself. Do you get tired midmorning? It is the way your body has of asking for food. Keep your body waiting and you may become grouchy (I get very grouchy as soon as my sugar levels begin to drop). Have an apple or another fruit. Try it and see the difference it makes!

  • At lunch reduce the amount of carbs you eat. Your body will process carbs immediately; you will get temporary energy and feel depleted shortly after. Fibers slow the absorption of meals into your system. Consider adding some!
  • A couple hours after lunch a fruit would be another wise idea. Have an apple ready!
  • I find that exercising in the morning works best for me. That is usually when I have more energy. But if you can’t or don’t want to workout in the morning, you need to have a good pre-workout snack. A protein shake is fine, but you should see if works well in your case. Other people may prefer a slice of whole wheat bread, and low fat cheese.
  • By the time you are done with your exercises you may feel depleted again.  Ideally you will have protein. Whey absorbs very quickly, and this will allow your muscles to grow, while keeping your calories low. With this little boost of energy begin to think about dinner.
  • Again, choosing healthy, low fat meals will not only keep your body happy, it will keep your body looking good!

  • Great tips! I usually work out at night, after dinner, but my dinners are usually very carb-heavy. I’m going to try eating less carbs/more proteins for dinners that are before I work out, and see if that gives me more energy. Thanks for the advice!

  • Great advice. I do feel better actually come to think of it days I eat oatmeal for breakfast and it seems to stay a lot longer with me as well.

Thank you for shareing your tips.
