Is easy access to fast foods and pre-packaged dinners what is making Americans fatter?

The skinny and muscular think so; they also believe that fat Americans are lazy.

Bodybuilding.com members identified laziness, stress, lack of commitment, and lack of time as the root problem of obesity in America.

For someone dealing with weight issues the reasons may sometimes have not all that much to do with what the skinny and muscular identified as the problem; often times the problem cannot be traced to just one cause.

People put on weight for different reasons; some are addicted to sugars or fats, and others eat to fill a void. For some individuals the overeating problem goes much deeper than simply having access to fast food around the clock.

For many the weight issue is inherited; not through genes, but through bad eating habits that are part of a family’s ritual; the fat person can be found in a fat family.

The typical American family works long hours, and few are looking forward to preparing delicious and nutritious meals at the end of the day. People have a need for fast and pre-packaged foods, and food producers are willing and happy to supply this demand; at a cost, of course.

The frozen dinner section at your local supermarket will provide you with pizzas, chicken, pasta, and even dessert. Suddenly it is not just a matter of being lazy to cook dinner, this junk food sometimes is cheaper than a healthy alternative.

Full of good intentions mom and dad go back home with the same old microwave ready meals that kids love and the cycle is perpetuated, at least for another day.

Eating healthy and delicious meals is a commitment you can’t just decide to make or break when you stand in the frozen goods island at the market; this should be a decision everyone in the household must make together. Equally important is the need to develop a strategy that will help you avoid situations when you find yourself surrounded of junk food.

Tips to Succeed at loosing the fat:

  • Plan your meals ahead, and prepare them ahead of time if you can.
  • Rid your house of junk foods.
  • Ask members of your family to support you. Explain to them why this is important to you, and tell them how they can help you.
  • Eat before you get hungry because by then you will be more likely to cheat yourself.
  • Ask yourself if there is a hidden reason for your need to overeat.
  • Actively seek advice of others who were able to lose the weight (the internet is great for this, and there are thousands of places where you can access free resources).

  • Definitely a great post, some good content on why it is hard to eat nutritious. I definitely find myself in this situation some times.

Also some great tips, I have planned my meals for a while now and found that it definitely keeps me away from the fast food places. Most times I will precook and wrap it for later. This way I can bring it to work or wherever I may be going. Also eating 5-6 times a day small portions like around a cup of food keeps your metabolism in high gear, and will help you see results.
