The Truth About Fats

Most people simply hate the word fat, and as you know it can relate to more than more than one thing, but the truth is that not all fats are really bad.
Let’s see how fats measure up:
1 gram of fat contains about 9 calories while 1 gram of carb or protein contain only 4 calories. That is not to say that all fats are bad for you, but as you can see eating fatty foods will add up your calories really quickly. According to experts calories from fat should be less than 35% of your total daily caloric intake.

For example:
For someone who consumes 2000 calories per day, the number of fats eaten should stay below the 65 gram per day.
For someone consuming 3000 calories per day, the maximum fat to eat on any day should be 100 grams.

Saturated fats, like those found in beef, butter, and margarine are the worst. When reading food labels keep an eye out for the words “saturated” and “hydrogenated” and stay as far away from them as you can.
There is another kind of fat which is actually good for you. Omega 3. These fats can be found in salmon, and other fish. Omega 3 fat will help you have healthier skin, stronger nails, and hair, and even lose weight! Click here to read an entry on Omega 3 Fats.
Like everything else fats should be consumed in moderation. A doughnut is not going to kill you, but it is not going to bring much joy to your life either.
