Sugar in large quantities before your exercise can have a negative impact on you. I know this first hand. Having a glass of juice, a piece of cake, cookies, or a glass of coke, or any other soda can make you dizzy while you workout. Why does this happen?
If you consume sugar in large quantities before your workout you may experience a sudden drop in blood sugar, again, you will feel dizziness and nausea. Small quantities of sugars are fine, like the sugar in your coffee. The consensus is to avoid sugar if you can, or if you MUST have it, consume it at least 2 hours before you exercise.
What about all those sugary drinks you can get that are specially designed to be consumed while exercising? In occasions when I feel that I have no more energy while exercising, these drinks really help me get through my workout. A word of advice though, don’t drink the whole bottle at once, you will not like the result. I promise you!!!
I would not have these drinks with every workout though. Once in a while it is ok, but keep in mind that they still have sugar (which is really not a healthy food). Not to mention the money you will have spent!!!
If your goal is to lose weight I would try to stay as far away as I can from these sugary drinks. After your workout make sure you feed your muscles. Have a good protein shake within an hour of having completed your workout, and have a good meal within two hours!

Good advice. I had never thought about eating to feed my muscles after a workout.
